Despite the dire state of the economy, 34% of American consumers indicate that they are more likely to buy environmentally responsible products today, another 44% indicate their environmental shopping habits have not changed as a result of the economy, and 8% say they are less likely to buy. This is according to the results of the 2009 Cone Consumer Environmental Survey.
Investors see a “golden age” for green investments according to an online survey conducted for Allianz Global Investors. Of the 1,264 investors surveyed, 78% said we are likely to see more policies to promote investment in new environmental technologies this year than we did during the previous eight years combined. Nearly half are likely to make an investment this year to capitalize on the environmental trend.
“This is perceived as a long-term opportunity,” said Allianz CEO, Brian Gaffney. “Investors understand that robust demand for innovation and solutions will fuel growth and, consequently, profits, for years to come.”
